The University bookstore carries something called "Wall Pops" which you can put on the wall, peel off the wall and reposition if you want. Apparently they aren't permenent. They come in all sorts of colors. You can get dots, blox, or stripes, but I don't see why you couldn't cut them to fit your needs.
